THE WONDERFUL NAME OF JESUS

HE GOT HIS NAME BY CONQUERING THE ENEMY!

Colossians 2:15 And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a show of them openly, triumphing over them in it.

Hebrews 2:14-15 Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;

15 And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.

This shows Jesus defeating the enemy and destroying him.

Rotherham's translation of Hebrews 2:14 is interesting, 14 .......in order that through death He might paralyze him that had the dominion of death, that is the devil.

He paralyzed Satan and defeated him and also destroyed him.

HE GOT HIS NAME BY INHERITANCE!

Hebrews 1:1-6 1 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,

2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;

3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;

4 Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.

5 For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son?

6 And again, when he bringeth in the firstbegotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him.

Acts 13:33 God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that he hath raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee.

Jesus inherited The Name when it was conferred on Him.

It was when He was raised from the dead again

V 5 again, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee

It was after His resurrection that He revealed that all authority had been given to Him in heaven and in earth.

GOD GIVEN NAME!

Philippians 2:9-11 9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:

10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;

11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

This was completed when Jesus ascended on high and God seated Him at His own right hand far above all principalities and powers.

Why was this name conferred on Him?

Why was this name invested with so much power and authority?

Was it for Jesus' benefit?

No!

In the 2000 years since His resurrection, He has never used the Name even once! He does not need to because He rules creation by His Word. He has equality with God.

But He was given the Name so He could give it to you!

ALL THINGS

1 Corinthians 3:21-23 21 Therefore let no man glory in men. For ALL THINGS are yours;

22 Whether Paul, or Apollos, or Cephas, or the world, or life, or death, or things present, or things to come; all are yours;

23 And ye are Christ's; and Christ is God's.

In verse one of the chapter Paul began by telling the Corinthians they were carnal.

1 Corinthians 3:1-3 1 And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ.

2 I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able.

3 For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?

You would think that these people would not get anything from God because of their carnality.

But when they were born again into God's family, just like you when you were born again the privilege and right to use the Name of Jesus became yours automatically. Everything that Jesus obtained through Calvary became yours by right, BUT IT IS UP TO YOU TO USE IT.

In Luke 15 we find is the story of the prodigal son.

If the prodigal son is a type of the backslider or sinner, and the father in the story is a type of God, then the elder brother must also be a type of the Christian who remains true and does not stray from the precepts of God's laws.

In the story when the older brother comes in from his day's work in the field and hears the sound of music and party and dancing, one of the servants told him what was happening.

Luke 15:25-31 25 Now his elder son was in the field: and as he came and drew nigh to the house, he heard music and dancing.

26 And he called one of the servants, and asked what these things meant.

27 And he said unto him, Thy brother is come; and thy father hath killed the fatted calf, because he hath received him safe and sound.

28 And he was angry, and would not go in: therefore came his father out, and entreated him.

29 And he answering said to his father, Lo, these many years do I serve thee, neither transgressed I at any time thy commandment: and yet thou never gavest me a kid, that I might make merry with my friends:

30 But as soon as this thy son was come, which hath devoured thy living with harlots, thou hast killed for him the fatted calf.

31 And he said unto him, Son, thou art ever with me, and all that I have is thine.

You see it's already available to you but you must appropriate it for yourself.

Do you think God has enough, He is El Shaddai not El Cheapo and all is for His Body, the Church.

Ephesians 1:19-23 KJV

19 And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power,

20 Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,

21 Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come:

22 And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church,

23 Which is his body, the fullness of him that filleth all in all.

The Name was given to Him so that you and I, The Church might use it. We are heirs of God and joint heirs with Jesus, everything we have belongs to Him and everything He has belongs to us.

IN PRAYER

John 16:23-24 23 And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you.

24 Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.

This prayer promise is probably one of the most wonderful statements ever to come from the lips of Jesus.

And in that day ye shall ask me nothing Here Jesus is referring to Calvary, He is looking forward into the future and in effect He is saying, "I am going away, I am going to Calvary, I am going to die, but I am going to be raised from the dead again, I am going to sit at the right hand of my Father. A new day is coming with a New Covenant. A New Testament is coming into being. In that day you shall ask me nothing."

You and I today live in the day Jesus was talking about to His disciples.

Then in V24 Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.

Remember that the disciples did not pray in the name of Jesus when He was upon the earth, because the time was not right for it's use.

While He was with them He met all their needs.

But the time was coming when He was not going to be with them any longer, but His Name would take His place, in performing the miracles, delivering people from Satan's power, and bring God's presence onto the scene.

JESUS DELEGATED IT TO THE DISCIPLES

Mark 16: 15-18 15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; IN MY NAME shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;

18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

Here Jesus delegated the power and authority in His Name to the disciples, those who believe, this is not to the Ministry only, BUT to all those who will believe in His Name.

There is an authority that has been invested in the Name of Jesus, in the Church on the earth today. It is time for The Church to rise up in faith and demonstrate the authority and power that has been given to them in His Name.

A DEMAND

John 14:12-14 KJV 12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.

13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.

It is interesting that these few verses in John 14 have nothing to do with prayer at all, yet the average Christian seems to think they do. In these verses the word ask in Greek is aiteo. Strong's Exhaustive Concordance gives the meaning as that which is strictly a demand of something due; as well as from

So the verse actually means to demand in the Name of Jesus.

E.G. The way Peter spoke at the Gate Beautiful to the lame man in Acts 3:6 Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.

The Name is WONDERFUL, why don't you use it as God intended?
